  • Q:

Will this floor fade in direct sunlight if used in a sunny breakfast room?
Asked on 7/2/2017 by Kula from Crystal lake Illinois

      A:

      PATINA
All wood species can change color over time due to oxidation or when exposed to light whether it is the sun or light bulbs. In some species, the change can be more dramatic and may darken in color over time, while others tend to lighten. Currently there is no known value set for Patina or color change of a species so contractors and or customers should be aware of this normal condition. The patina process is unrelated to the urethane finishes.
The best recommendation is to wait as long as you can before putting rugs down (usually the patina process takes 3 - 6 months) or simply move area rugs occasionally to allow light to get to all areas. The wood only changes so much and when covered areas are exposed to light they will eventually "catch up"!

  • Q:

I read the installation guide but it's unclear exactly what gauge cleat nails are recommended. The guide says 18 ga for exotic, and since this wood is from Thailand that would technically be accurate. But since the density of the wood is less than that of domestic red oak, 16 ga cleat nails would seem to be appropriate. Could you clear this up for me?
Asked on 2/8/2017 by Mat from United States

      A:

You can always start with a "standard" 16 gauge cleat & go to an 18 gauge if need be.

  • Q:

This wood says it is 6" planks. Are those 6" planks made up of narrower pieces that are put together to form the 6" width?
    Asked on 4/18/2016 by Phillip

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Yes, this is 4 edge glued strips of Hevea wood that make up each plank.
I would recommend visiting your local Lumber Liquidators to look at the actual sample (take home samples are free) or order a sample to make sure this is the right product for you.
