Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

Very durable, easy to install, can scratch easily with sharp

By Nate

  • Easy Install
  • Install Instructions
  • Looks great in home
  • very durable

  • Matching pieces pricey
  • Scratch Susceptible

Best Uses

  • Entry foyer
  • Half bath
  • Kitchen
  • Living Room

Just put this in yesterday, it's easy to install, but you HAVE TO follow the installation instructions that are provided in the installation PDF. For instance, we tested the install with an 16 gauge flooring nailer and it did not work and I had to go buy an 18 gauge that it indicated.

Flooring is very durable and very hard as you would expect for strand bamboo. Using finishing nails and a hammer, I can sink the nails and pound the wood without denting it, which would not be the case with a traditional oak.

Coloring looks great in the house. I've included a few pictures of the partial installation.

As with most dark finishes, this will be prone to scratches. That said, I couldn't scratch this stuff with the tips of my finishing nails, but a very sharp pair of scissors I was using to cut underlayment was able to put a scratch or two in floor during installation.

Service and delivery comments:

I don't want to knock the product by downgrading the rating above, but I did want to mention that when I was shopping for flooring, I did have an issue with a recommendation that the Lumber Liquidators team put forth. My first and very specific question once we eyed up this flooring product was "do I need to match flooring with stair treads?" The response given to me was that it wasn't necessary and we should just use red oak treads and stain to match. This does not work - they do not match! If you want it to be even remotely close you have to use the matching bamboo treads and these are $120/tread! Had I known this, I probably would have picked a different flooring material because of the overall project cost. LL initially wasn't too sympathetic and didn't think that someone on their team would make that type of recommendation, but eventually helped me bridge the gap. That said, the stairs will end up costing me 3x more (for the stairs only) than what I was expecting to pay! Long story, short - I would recommend two trips to the LL store, so you can chat with at least 2 people to make sure the recommendations are consistent.

Choose your install gun wisely

  • Consistent color

  • Value Priced

  • Easily marred
  • Need A Special Tool

Best Uses

Strand Bamboo can be very brittle even when pre drilled. Using a tradition cleat or staple gun with an impact head will destroy the planks even with a soft tap. Also, using a tapping block is a must. I had success stapling with 18ga 1" stapler that has a 2-way adjustable guide mechanism. The bamboo was too dense for staples any longer than 1", but at 7/16 you still get good penetration of the fastener. Before switching guns I had 4 marred planks in the first 3 rows of install using the impact style gun. With the right tool this wasn't that bad, but forget it if you don't have one.

We are very satisfied with this product. We purchased a ton and refloored our entire house with it. 3 years later and it has held up very well to 3 kids, a dog, and countless house guests / parties. For the money I don't think you can get a better looking, more durable floor. We would definitely buy again if needed.

This new thinner planking should not be stapled or nailed. The discontiued thicker 15MM boarding was an excellent product. The previous boarding was 3 ft lengths and the neweris 6 ft lengths. Lower waste on long runs, but , best glued down.

huge disappointment with this product. We installed the original viper bamboo floor (5/8" thick, 3 foot runs) and absolutely loved it. Super easy to work with. This replacement product had longer lengths, but the 7/16" thickness made the floor impossible to nail without massive waste. This is a significantly inferior product. Please bring back the original and raise the price if you need to. If you buy this, plan to glue it down, not nail it down.
